May 22nd 2005 will live long in the memories of anyone who claims to hold the Claret and Amber close to their hearts. That day, it wasn’t Claret and Amber though, it was Claret and Black as the Steelmen beat Celtic by two goals to one to spoil their title challenge thanks to late goals from Scott McDonald.

This is one of the samples created by then kit-makers Xara as an alternative to that kit. The design, which is similar to the black and claret sash top with the main difference being the un-usual colours for a Motherwell kit. Blue and white – Motherwell’s original colours when the club was formed back in 1886 (and also the colours of then sponsors Zoom Airlines).
