Alajuelense Home football shirt 2000 - 2001

2000 - 2001 Alajuelense home football shirt. Home shirt as worn during the first part of the 2000-01 season, and worn during Alajuelense's run on the CONMEBOL-organized Copa Merconorte, in which Alajuelense ended in a respectable fifth place against Mexican, Peruvian and Colombian opposition.

This is the first Eescord shirt that Alajuelense wore during the sponsorship contract and was first worn on Matchday 2 against Pérez Zeledón on their turf (an Alajuelense win). On Matchday 1 (the season opener against Carmelita) the temporary home kit furnished by Sportek was used whilst the Eescord shipment arrived,

Home shirt used during the latter part of the 2000-01 season where Alajuelense won their second of four consecutive league titles; this one was won under Portuguese manager Guilherme Farinha. He decided to quit the job after a somewhat rough start of the 2001-02 season.

This is arguably one of the best seasons performed by Alajuelense during their four title run (tied with the 2002-03 season) losing only to Carmelita on the season opener (1-2), Pérez Zeledón (3-1 on their turf) on one of the Clausura matches, and to Herediano on the first match of the Clausura final.

Shirt making duties were taken over by Mexican brand Eescord after a two-year run with Atlética. However, upon closer inspection of the above example, the inner tag says "Arena Sport", referring to a Costa Rican sportswear firm--some (stadium) replicas could be seen with the Arena Sport logo on front of the shirt; whilst Arena also had kitmaking duties for the youth teams (the Alto Rendimiento wore the kits discarded by the Primera División team due to stock rotation). This can be compared to a previously mentioned example of Sportek making temporary shirts for the beginning of the season. It may also suggest that Eescord abandoned the sponsorship deal.

The same template of the above shirt was used for two different home shirts on the beginning of the 2001-02 season, albeit with a different front sponsor (Coca-Cola).

Shirt #20 was only available as a (stadium) replica as the last owner of it (legendary defender and crowd favorite Mauricio Montero) retired on 1998 and the number alongside him (number retirement also applies to the youth teams to some extent). On later seasons (and nowadays), one could ask for #20 to be printed on one's shirt.

One more example of one of the home shirts used during the first half of the 2000-01 season, and during the entire (bar the initial match) Copa Merconorte run.

Alajuelense won the second league title in a row under Portuguese boss Guilherme Farinha, losing only three matches during the entire run.
