Goalies during the year have been Patrick Pemberton, Mauricio Vargas and Erick Adonis Pineda. Pemberton reached 301 matches on goal during the Verano 2017 (being only fourteen away from record holder Alejandro González); whilst Vargas debuted in the first team after being signed on September 2016, following a stint in U.S. college soccer, and started on goal for five matches. On the other hand, Pineda did not play during the Verano but debuted on Alajuelense's final Invierno match. Pineda however was the most praised player for the U20 La Sele which played in the Youth World Cup in Korea, receiving attention from Sevilla. As of writing, developments towards something concrete are expected.

Completing the lot is youngster Miguel Ajú, who played in the 2015 U17 World Cup. Miguel was recently revealed to be the son of former Alajuelense Colombian forward Nisson Perea and also has a half-brother playing with Carmelita. Ajú went to the bench for three matches on the early Verano matches after receiving praise on a friendly against PFC.
