1999 - 2000 Alajuelense away футболка. Away shirt as worn during the 1999-2000 season. Under the management of Portuguese manager Guilherme Farinha, Alajuelense made a very successful season and, despite a 4-0 hiccup against then-reigning champions Saprissa towards the end of the season at Tibás, ended up convincing champions on the virtue of achieving silverware without the need of national finals.
Alajuelense also competed on the CONCACAF Champions' Cup using this same shirt in which they barely lost against then-powerhouse Necaxa in the final match, for the CONCACAF ticket to the inaugural Club World Cup to be held in mid-2000 in Brazil.
The above item is an updated version of the 1998-99 away shirt (which was also worn on a match or two of the 99-2000 season) which had the same design but reversed the colours on the oversized Atlética logos on the sleeve (and the sleeve colour itself) and did away with the gray pinstriping between the stripes.
In this season, Alajuelense also did away with the custom of wearing white (ie. the away shirt) at home; only using this for a single match. The only other occasions where this has been done since were for pre-season friendlies and testimonial matches.
