1999 - 2000 Alajuelense home футболка. Home shirt worn during the latter part of the 1998-99 season and during the 1999-2000 season.

During the latter part of the 99-00 season, the Aero CostaSol sponsor was sewn to the lower back.

Using this shirt Alajuelense won the first of their four consecutive championships (from the 1999-00 season to the 2002-03 season), ending two years of agony under Saprissa rule, and in turn, starting a 13-match streak against their Tibás arch-rivals after a seemingly decisive 4-0 loss on Saprissa turf on April 2000.

Shirt #20 was retired on 1998 and was last worn by tough defender, long-serving team captain and perennial fan favorite Mauricio "el Chunche" Montero, to which #20 was most famously associated to (even though he also wore #12 on a handful of matches on the early 1990s). Montero took over #20 from forward José Mario Rodríguez on 1987. Another famous user of the number was former goalkeeper and 1980s fan favorite Alejandro González, during his days as a substitute.

The above example was supposedly player-issued but given to Montero by Alajuelense officials. After its retirement, #20 was used once by forward Érick Jiménez on an international match, much to Montero's understandable chagrin. It was later revealed that it was a printing mistake; and Jiménez wore #26 later on his Alajuelense career.
