It was the first time since 2001 that a Costa Rican representative managed to steal victory from the Mexican stronghold. The event was dubbed #Ligaztecazo by the Alajuelense fandom and earned Alajuelense their first qualification to the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals.
