Alajuelense ended their sponsorship deal with Eescord and signed with Brazilian maker Finta. Sometime towards the end of 2002, Alajuelense switched to a copycat home shirt, which was made (initially unsponsored) by Costa Rican kitmaker Jugados.

This shirt almost coincided with the arrival of the then-unknown Colombian manager Jorge Luis Pinto's arrival to Costa Rica for the Alajuelense job. Pinto's Alajuelense almost never lost during the 2001-02 Clausura and forced the finals against Santos de Guápiles (the Apertura winners).

Shirt #17 was assigned to Steven Bryce (who carried over his number since his defection from Saprissa) who also frequently scored against them during the next few Clásicos.
