The shirt deal eventually was taken over by Spaniard firm Kelme starting on January 1st, 2018 after months of hearsay. The Alajuelense Board of Directors decided to remain mum on the subject because of legal reasons, however the news were only confirmed on the same day that the kits were unveiled to the public. This new deal also marks the return of Kelme to Alajuelense after a short stint for the 1994-95 season.

The home shirt was proposed by yours truly and is based in the home shirt used by Alajuelense in 1970, however artistic license was taken with the neck and the cuffs (as the original shirt did not feature white at all save for the numbering).

This is the first time in seven years that white number printing is featured on the home shirt (after ten non-consecutive years of using gold) and also the first shirt in ten years that features a striped back (all the home shirts in the PUMA deal did not feature such a thing, with the shirts from 2012 onwards having a black back and the home shirts on 2008 and 2010 having a partially striped back; the 95th Anniversary shirt being the exception to the rule but as this was not a "permanent" home shirt it does not count).

Shirt #12 is used by popular midfielder Pablo Antonio Gabas, who seized it from former owner Johnny Acosta after he was sacked from the club--Acosta took over #12 from Gabas after the latter was signed in Mexico for a short stint in 2014 (Acosta was using #25 and then #3 at the time); however #12 was left unused between late August 2016 to June 2017 when it was re-assigned to its rightful owner.
