#20 Taylor Twellman 2002-2010

After playing two years in the reserves for Bundesliga club 1860 Munich Taylor was drafted second overall by the New England Revolution in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft where he finished out his playing career. During is time with the Revolution, Twellman earned many league and club honors, including both MLS MVP and the MLS Golden Boot in 2005. In 2007 he was an integral part of the squad that hoisted the US Open Cup, as well as the 2008 SuperLiga trophy.
In 2008, the English club Preston North End made 3 multi-million dollar bids to transfer him across the pond. All offers were rejected. Shortly after, Twellman was involved in a hard mid-air collision against Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin while both were challenging for the ball, which resulted in a serious concussion and whiplash. The lasting effects resulted in his missing most of the 2009 and 2010 seasons. His retirement from the game was announced at the end of the 2010 season.
Since retirement, Taylor has taken on a new career as a sports analyst for ESPN's Major League Soccer and their World Cup coverage. He also hosts a weekly recap show about the league, MLS Rewind, on ESPN+.
Since retirement, Twellman has created the THINKTaylor foundation, a charitable organization regarding sports-related concussions. Twellman has agreed to donate his brain to science after death. His brain could be of use to determine whether multiple concussions cause permanent harm to the brain.
