  One of the three away shirts used during the 1997-98 season, used mostly for matches in early 1998. Towards the end of the season, it was changed once again, to an almost all-white affair.

  Alajuelense established one of their longest lossless streaks, peaking at 21 matches between late 1997 and March 1998 in the middle of the Clausura tournament. Alajuelense however lost all momentum and, despite winning the first leg of the Clausura final 0-1 against Saprissa at Tibás, a shock 0-2 at Alajuela forced the national finals against their archrival. On the national finals, a 2-1 win from their hosts dealt a morale blow and caused the morados to celebrate on away turf after the return leg. To top it off, at the end of the season Alajuelense lost several mainstays to retirement (Mauricio Montero) or to foreign contracts.
