1986 Alajuelense home Camiseta de Fútbol. One of three different home shirts used by Alajuelense during the 1986-87 season.

Alajuelense had a shaky start domestically as they went through three coaches in the first ten matches as Dutchman Theodorus Cremmers had a second chance at the club only to be sacked after two matches, then former 60s player Nelson Morera stepped in as caretaker, and then Carlos Watson (who was previously an assistant to previous coach Álvaro McDonald) was named on the bench. Watson seemed steadier on the position but did not finish the season either, being substituted with Czechoslovak boss Josef Bouska.

Despite the rollercoaster season, Alajuelense contested the top positions and disputed the finals against Municipal Puntarenas in 1987, however the chuchequeros were the best team and won the league title.

Alajuelense also participated in the 1986 CONCACAF Champions Cup, edging Guatemalan outfit Juventud Retalteca (this shirt was used in the away match against them), Salvadoran powerhouse Alianza, Bermudan champion Pembroke Hamilton, and Surinamese champion (and CFU winner) Transvaal in the finals; in order to win their first regional silverware.

The above shirt used to belong to former player Melvin Araya.
