Willem II Home football shirt 1987 - 1988

1987 - 1988 Willem II home football shirt. Home shirt as worn by Willem II during the 87/88 Eredivisie season, in which they finished 4th out of 18 teams.

Manufactured by Dutch brand Masita, this shirt symbolises the club's incredibly succesful league campaign in that season, with the team narrowly missing out on European football, after having been promoted in the previous year. Their 4th place was their best result since the introduction of professional football in the Netherlands, and would remain in the record books until their fantastic second place in the 98/99 Eredivisie season.

Sponsored by VZS (felt logo), this rendition of Willem II's iconic kit was worn by players such as club legend John Feskens, Andre Stafleu, Bud Brocken, and Kevin Maddock, who was transferred from the English non-league and went on to score over 20 goals in the league. The team's coach was Dutch master scout Piet de Visser, who currently operates internationally for Chelsea.

Of note is that, on the back, an extra square of polyester has been stitched onto the shirt, to accomodate for a player number.
