1978 - 1980 New England Tea Men retro replicas football shirt. New England Tea Men
(1978-1980) (original)NASL
The New England Tea Men were a soccer team based in Foxborough, Massachusetts (where the NE Revolution (MLS) and NE Patriots (NFL) now play in a new stadium). They played in the original incarnation (1968-1984) of the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1978 to 1980. Then as the Jacksonville Tea Men (1981-1984) until the demise of the league.
The Tea Men were owned by tea company Lipton, who gave them their name which referenced both the company's primary product and the Boston Tea Party. They won their division in 1978 and made a run for the playoffs in 1980. However, for several reasons, the team struggled financially in Massachusetts. Right at the start of the 1980–81 indoor season they relocated to Jacksonville, Florida and became the Jacksonville Tea Men.
This is a reproduction of the Home jersey, made by Copa, that the team wore for all three seasons in New England. The Away jersey would have been white, with the same red “T” design. The basic design is correct, but the fabric may not be the same. In addition, the Umbro logo is missing from the front right breast (likely for copyright reasons) and shoulder/sleeve decoration is missing.
