Municipal Puntarenas Home football shirt 2003

2003 Municipal Puntarenas home football shirt. Home shirt as used during the 2002-2003 Segunda División championship in which Municipal Puntarenas narrowly avoided relegation to ANAFA (non-league) by beating Vecinos de Santa Ana in the relegation play-off.

Municipal Puntarenas was a protagonist on the 1980s and early 1990s on the Primera División tournament, even winning the 1986-87 title against Liga Deportiva Alajuelense. Municipal Puntarenas lost all momentum in the mid-90s, ending in a surprise relegation to Segunda División in 2001, 17 years after winning their only Costa Rican championship.

Municipal Puntarenas was eventually relegated to LINAFA (non-league, former ANAFA) in 2010; and due to crippling debt, dissolved in 2013.

Puntarenas FC is a separate entity from the Municipal Puntarenas team, however they play in the same colors as the latter and use the Miguel "Lito" Pérez Treacy Stadium as their home turf. Being a separate entity altogether also means that PFC did not inherit the 1986-87 title from Municipal Puntarenas.
