Costa Rica Cup Shirt football shirt 2004

2004 Costa Rica cup shirt football shirt. Away shirt used by the Costa Rican U23 national team for the 2004 Olympics.

It was the first time in 20 years that a national team had made it to the Olympics soccer tournament, following consecutive appearances in 1980 and 1984; in the latter La Sele pulled a major upset when they famously scalped Italy on the final group match. The appearances in Moscow and Los Angeles were contested by the senior team, while the U23 side competed in Athens as a result of an age cap that has been in place since the 1992 Olympics.

The 2004 tournament remains the latest appearance of La Sele in the Olympics to date, and the best performance so far; as the team drew against Morocco, lost against Iraq and drubbed Portugal (featuring one Cristiano Ronaldo) to finish second on their group. La Sele was eventually booted out in the quarterfinals by Argentina 4-0, courtesy of a Carlos Tévez.

Both the home and away shirts were a unique design from Joma specially for the Olympics--Joma not only was the FEDEFUTBOL sponsor but also landed the Costa Rican Olympic Committee sponsorship for the Athens competition.

Shirt #7 was used by forward Erick Scott, who played for MLS side Columbus Crew at the time and had Alajuelense upbringing.
