1997 Costa Rica retro replicas football shirt. Near-exact replica of the third shirt used against Mexico (Nov. 9th, 1997) for the 1998 France World Cup qualifiers. The actual shirt has the Costa Rica badge embroidered and uses a different shade of blue.
The actual shirt was only used once in the aforementioned match in Mexico City and was used with white shorts, which was the same combination used on the very first international match contested by Costa Rica in 1921. Costa Rica drew 3-3 against Mexico on the next-to-last matchday of the Hexagonal, effectively losing all chances to stay on the fight for the final CONCACAF ticket for the France World Cup (Mexico and the United States already securing theirs, and Jamaica claiming the final one on that same matchday). La Sele also drew (love-all) against Mexico on the first match of the Hex.
Shirt #11 was assigned that morning to current Herediano sports manager Jafet Soto. While a player, Soto only played for Herediano locally and had a prolific career on several Mexican teams.
