Alajuelense (W) have dominated so far the Costa Rican women\'s first tier with apparently no end in sight--Alajuelense successfully defended their Clausura 2021 title, uniquely doing so through another invincible run (double invincible runs have never happened on Costa Rica\'s first tier leagues for either sex) and winning a league treble in the process.

Alajuelense (W) starts yet another title defense on late August, and is set to host the UNCAF Club Championship in September.

Shirt #10 is used by midfielder Shirley Cruz, who is probably the most decorated female player in Costa Rican footballing history. Cruz arrived in Alajuelense in 2019 shortly after the club started a working agreement with CODEA, finally fulfilling a childhood dream (she couldn\'t do so when her career started as Alajuelense did not field a women\'s club at the time) and has remained with the club since, save for a last swing abroad at the United States during 2021. Unless she decides to postpone in order to compete at the 2023 World Cup, Cruz is expected to retire at the end of the year.
