1998 Alajuelense home football shirt. Home shirt worn during the last part of the 1997-98 season and one of the two Nike home shirts used during the season. At season's end the deal lapsed and a new one with Atletica was signed ahead of the 1998-99 season.

Alajuelense was looking forward to the league treble (last obtaining one between 1958 and 1960) and despite an impressive run between the Apertura and Clausura tournaments (a 21 match unbeaten streak), they lost all steam and lost the Clausura finals against archrivals Saprissa on a 1-2 aggregate--Alajuelense (in)famously losing the return leg at Alajuela against a 9 men-strong Saprissa. The resulting morale blow caused the national finals to be lost.

Shirt #21 was issued to forward David Diach who was signed from Carmelita. The number was vacant as the previous owner was striker Froylán Ledezma who signed for AFC Ajax and did not finish the 1996-97 season. Diach was signed ahead of the 1997-98 season and lasted one more on the team.
