Once this shirt was unveiled, the keen-eyed (and older) Alajuelense fans immediately noticed that this is a near-exact replica of one of the away shirts used during the 1987-88 season. The original shirt features a polo neck, an obviously different sponsor, no back sponsorship, red printing for the numbers, and was worn for a handful of matches.

Back printing is the official one intended for this shirt. Colombian forward Camilo Aguirre wore shirt #30 during the Verano 2014, and following Aguirre's end-of-contract release, Honduran midfielder Ramón Núñez wore it during the Invierno 2014. Núnez however was sacked during the tournament (despite promising appearances as a sub) after a fit of indiscipline on a training session, making him only the second Honduran dud (after Juan Carlos Espinoza on 1989) ever signed by Alajuelense.
