A.D. Turrialba Home football shirt 2017 - 2018

2017 - 2018 A.D. Turrialba home football shirt. Home shirt used by the Azucareros [sugar-makers] during the 2017-18 Liga de Ascenso season. New Balance sponsors Turrialba and a handful of other Segunda División teams, however the kits are manufactured locally, through a special sponsorship arrangement with FEDEFUTBOL in which the American company licenses the brand to local kitmakers.

Turrialba has been a constant staple in the Costa Rican second level since 1997 when they were last relegated from the top, however they were an elevator club during, their first years: Turrialba was first promoted in 1964, got relegated in 1966, was promoted again in 1969 and got relegated in 1971. They were promoted again ahead of the 1972 season but got relegated once more, this time at the end of it. Their fourth promotion to the next level was in 1973, getting relegated in 1975, and bouncing back at the end of the year. Turrialba was relegated at the end of the 1979 season and stayed there until 1990 in which they were last promoted--they actually finished runners-up to Pérez Zeledón-based outfit Generaleña, however they still got promoted because FEDEFUTBOL froze relegation and decided to contest the 1990-91 Primera División tournament with twelve teams (being held until the end of the 1989-90 season with ten). Turrialba lasted between 1990 and mid-1997 in the first level, being relegated after a bad season, and have remained in the second level since, even coming close to being relegated to the third level (non-league) a couple of times.

Turrialba last had a brush with promotion in the knock-out rounds of the 2017 Clausura when they were booted out by eventual Ascenso champions Municipal Grecia (who in turn were promoted after beating Jicaral SERCOBA in the national finals) on penalty kicks before a packed Rafael Ángel Camacho stadium.
