Known as The Nix, they play at the Sky Stadium in the city of Wellington which has a capacity of 34500. They share the stadium with other sports teams, St Kilda FC (Aussie Rules) played a few games here some years ago, Hurricanes RFC and Wellington Lions (Rugby Union) are regulars and even Wellington Firebirds in the SuperSmash 2020 Cricket have played there in the past.

The most local A-League sides are Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC, a mere 1383 miles away, or a three hour flight (no buses, coaches or trains available). When they play Perth Glory the flight time is 8 hours and 50 minutes, and several time zones away.

They were formed in 2007 after the previous NZ A-League side, New Zealand Knights lost their franchise due to financial issues.
