Alajuelense Fútbol Femenino started competing on its own for the Clausura 2020 tournament, however the season was abandoned with three matchdays completed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was replaced with a 2020 \"yearly\" season which is due to be completed by the end of the calendar year.

Alajuelense FF had a successful Apertura 2019 season by winning the tournament against Saprissa\'s women\'s team. Alajuelense played in association with the Comité de Deportes de Alajuela (Alajuela Sports Committee, CODEA) who owned the franchise (and statistically is the reigning champion); however due to failure on CODEA\'s end to properly register for the 2020 season caused Liga Deportiva Alajuelense to purchase the franchise and field a women\'s team of their own (which they were going to do anyway regardless of CODEA\'s outcome). CODEA was relegated to the second level as a result, which is currently on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and due to women\'s second level matches not being held in stadiums.

Alajuelense also completed in association with another Alajuelan institution (UCEM) between 2012 and 2016.
