Most digital cameras take photos which are much bigger than needed on the website so to save time uploading we recommend that large photos are reduced in size before adding them. The website automatically resizes photos to the exact size needed for displaying correctly so you don't need to know the precise dimensions. It is recommended that the photo you are uploading is around 1000 pixels wide (about 1 Megapixel) but not too much more as it will only take longer to upload.
You may already have some image editing software on your computer which will resize photos. Many digital cameras come with photo editing software which will let you resize images among other things. However, if you use Microsoft Windows XP we recommend the following free program:

If you want a very simple way to resize photos, Windows XP users can download a free program from the Microsoft Website which lets you easily resize images just by right-clicking on them on your computer. To download the image resizer program, click here and look for the "Image Resizer" somewhere down the page on the right hand side.
Download and install the program then just right click on your photos, select Resize Pictures and then choose "Large" - although this says "Large" it's actually still much smaller than photos taken with most digital cameras and the file size will be much smaller which means your photos will upload much quicker.
