Rare home shirt as worn when Italian manager Fabio Capello guided Los Merengues to the La Liga title in his one season in charge. After a disappointing sixth placed finish in the previous season, Real opted to decline their invitation to play in the Intertoto Cup. This was the first time in 19 years that the side would not play in any form of European competition. The choice to decline the invite clearly worked wonders though, as Los Blancos pipped rivals Barcelona to the title by 2 points.
