Alajuelense reintroduced a black shirt in 2006 (a different model) for the first time in decades and used it as a third shirt between that year and 2011. Black was not really used as an exchange shirt due to there being almost no need for it; and since 2012 black was exchanged by red (2012, 2013 and 2017), halved red and black (2014), hooped red and black (2015), and halved red-and-black stripes one side, black the other side (2016) as third choice shirts.
